‘Mourinho created division’

Raul feels Jose Mourinho had a few good years at Real Madrid but then ‘created division’ and only Iker Casillas knows what happened for him to quit the club.

Casillas left on a free transfer for Porto in 2015 but first lost his place at the club under Mourinho, who Raul told AS did good work on the pitch but created a negative atmosphere at the club.

“The image of Casillas leaving was…difficult. The only ones who what happened are Casillas and the club, and the rest see it from the outside. If you see a Madrid legend say goodbye it shocks you, of course,” he said.

“Mourinho did a great job. The first two years were very good. The team was competitive and defeated the best Barcelona at that time. In the third year, the divisions began, ones you feel from the outside and you can perceive. But to know what to think you need to know the root of the problem.

“When I was there a lot of people said things that didn’t correspond to reality. But the division Mourinho created was clear. There was division. Although, the work he did on the pitch was very good.

“There are many ways to get where you want to be, I always say, and you have to find a strategy so the team is united. Then everyone has their preference. I respect all of them, but I’ll take the sporting aspect: Mourinho competed well with the best Barcelona.”
