Atleti make Icardi top target?

Atletico Madrid have reportedly made Mauro Icardi their top transfer target after receiving indications that the striker wants to leave Inter.

According to AS, Icardi’s agent and wife Wanda Nara has the “outline” of Atleti’s contract in her hands, while the Argentine has already spoken to Atleti boss Diego Simeone, whom he considers one of the best in the world.

Despite Nara’s insistence that Icardi would be staying at Inter last week, the newspaper adds the pair are keen on a change of scenery.

“Mauro doesn’t want to leave Inter, but it seems that the club need to sell due to their economic situation. We hope they ask for an amount that is consistent with his contract,” she told Calciomercato.

She later wrote on Twitter: “Icardi would like to stay at Inter, but the club want to sell him and are asking for more than €50m,” before deleting the tweet.

Icardi is said to have met with Nerazzurri directors on Sunday, where he distanced himself from the statements made by his wife.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the player’s demands of an improvement continue to be ignored by the club, despite their new Chinese owners considering him to be “untouchable”.

With that in mind, AS concludes Atleti intend to accelerate talks with Inter this week over a €50m transfer as Nara is scheduled to meet with the Rojiblancos hierarchy in Ibiza.
