Laporte: Thanks for the interest…

Aymeric Laporte says he appreciates the interest of the clubs who tried for his signature but he is convinced by Athletic Bilbao.

Laporte on Monday evening signed a new contract with Los Leones, becoming the highest-paid player in the club’s history, and rejecting an even more lucrative advance from Manchester City.

“These are very exciting and attractive projects. But you have to make decisions and I’ve taken mine and I hope everything goes well. I thank the clubs that were interested because it means I was doing something right,” he told Athletic’s in-house television channel, AS reports.

“My family wanted me to stay here and I’ve been very happy since I came to Bilbao. I’m very happy and grateful to the club. In all aspects, sporting and personal, the club has helped me in the sense that they attended to me, they’ve called me and for this I’m grateful. I hope to continue to enjoy football with the team and play to the maximum.”
