City ‘retain Rulli buyback option’

Real Sociedad have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Geronimo Rulli permanently, but Manchester City could buy the goalkeeper for €14m at a later date.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Rulli was offered the chance to join City but refused so he could put pen to paper on a six-year contract with La Real, who will pay Deportivo Maldonado €7m for a 70 percent stake in the player.

However, while Los Txuriurdin have included a €35m release clause in the custodian’s contract, City can reportedly purchase him for just €14m, the English giants enjoying links with the investment fund that owns the Uruguayan minnows.

However, the clause will be voided if another club makes a superior offer for Rulli as City would then be obliged to match the proposal.

Moreover, La Real will be able to purchase the remaining 30% of the 24-year-old’s economic rights at a rate of €1m for 10% in each summer between 2019 and 2021.

An official announcement is expected to be made by June 28, the date when Rulli will join up with Argentina’s Olympic team.

Rulli has spent the past two years on loan at Anoeta after arriving as a replacement for Claudio Bravo, making 58 League appearances in that time.
