Jemez getting closer to Espanyol?

Paco Jemez is said to be at the top of Espanyol’s three-man shortlist to take over as Coach next season.

The Rayo Vallecano trainer is vying with Jorge Sampaoli and Philippe Montanier, previously of Real Sociedad, for the bench at Cornella-El Prat, and appears to be getting closer to taking it.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Jemez is not expected to re-sign with Rayo after their relegation as he has yet to meet with President Martin Presa, and could depart as a free agent and take over Los Periquitos.

Espanyol have yet to make a decision, however, and are understood to have communicated as much to Jemez’s representative, so as not to mislead the 46-year-old. He is however top of the shortlist, with Montanier third and Sampaoli perhaps holding out for a bigger club.

An announce could be made on Monday that Constantin Galca is to leave the club, while Angel Gomez is in line to be appointed sporting director and once his role is official, a Coach will be named.

Espanyol sources are also denying Lazio contact for Felipe Caicedo, while a move for Feyenoord’s Tonny Vilhena has also been dismissed, but there does appear to be interest in Napoli’s David Lopez, who moved to Italy from Espanyol in 2014.
