Coke: It’s hard to explain!

Sevilla captain and match-winner Coke struggled to put into words how the team manages to thrive in the Europa League year after year.

Los Rojiblancos claimed a third straight trophy in a stirring comeback win over Liverpool, the skipper scoring twice in the second half to win the man of the match award and see the competition retained.

“It’s very difficult to explain this. Thanks to the team we have and all the people who spent money to come here and to die for Sevilla,” Coke said after full time, AS reports.

“We’ve suffered today and throughout the season. There’s been long injuries, which is the worst thing in football, and we’ve fought for all of them. It’s been uphill. They could have gotten a second goal but this team has heart.

“It doesn’t matter [who was man of the match]. The important thing is we won. Every year we change 10 players. It’s complicated and difficult at the start, so it shows how much merit there is to this. We were knocked out of the Champions League and we had to recover.

“There weren’t many of our fans here but every one is worth three or four. We can enjoy it. It’s a very special week and we’ve started in the best way. We have a whole city behind us.”
