Paco open to Rayo stay, if…

Paco Jemez confirms he is open to staying at Rayo Vallecano after their relegation from La Liga, providing “things are done as I want them”.

Rayo defeated Levante 3-1 in their final game of the season, but Sporting Gijon’s 2-0 victory over Villarreal meant Los Vallecanos would play in La Segunda next term, yet Paco made it clear he would not abandon the club, subject to conditions being met.

“The President has my word [of him staying], as long as things are done as I want them,” the Coach said after the game.

“It’s not just about economics. That would be very sad, but it will not happen.

“I’ll leave the door of leading the project open, as long as things on a sporting level are done with rigour, tranquillity and serenity.

“[On the feeling of relegation], I didn’t know such a wrenching silence in the dressing room existed.

“Beyond [the sporting level], it hurts you personally. The dressing room is a mirror of what any Rayo fans are feeling.

“We’ve got to where we have. We picked up 15 points in the first round of the season and 20 in the second.

“We did many things right, but ultimately everyone finishes where they deserve to.

“It’s not about justice or injustice. We leave [La Liga] with a clear conscience.”
