Cani: Blame the players

Cani believes the Deportivo La Coruna players should take the blame for a second half of the season that has left the team in relegation danger.

Deportivo are four points clear of the bottom three with two games to play, having been challenging for a European place after the first half of the season, with Coach Victor Sanchez said to be on the brink as a result.

“It should be noted that the players are the major culprits, and then the Coach and then the others, the directors and the Press a little,” veteran Cani said, Marca reports.

“I see [criticism] going the easy way, to the Coach, because when things go wrong he’s sacked and a new one is appointed, but you have to be self-critical. Everyone at Depor is at fault. We’ve all contributed and it’s easy to blame the Coach. I’m not saying the Coach shouldn’t get any blame but it’s not just him. But it’s easier to remove one person than 20.”

Deportivo meet Villarreal this weekend but Cani isn’t expecting any help from his former club.

“I’m not asking for a favour. They’re not playing for anything in the League and we are. I don’t want anyone else to get a favour. They’re a good team and it’ll be difficult,” he said.
