City ‘to meet Laporte clause’

Basque television claims Manchester City will activate Aymeric Laporte’s €50m buyout clause this summer as Athletic Bilbao are resigned to the defender’s exit.

The Premier League has long been considered a possible destination for Laporte, despite only signing a contract extension last summer, and ETB reports President Josu Urrutia and Coach Ernesto Valverde are aware of City’s intentions, Pep Guardiola set to take charge of the English giants.

City sporting director Txiki Begiristain was spotted in the stands at San Mames for Athletic Bilbao’s 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals, although the France Under-21 international was absent – and remains so – due to a fractured tibia.
