‘Granada must go down fighting’

Miguel Lopes has insisted that Granada must “go down fighting” ahead of welcoming Las Palmas to Los Carmenes on Saturday.

Monday’s 2-1 defeat to Celta Vigo coupled with Sporting Gijon beating Eibar in the first game of Week 36 left Granada in La Liga’s bottom three, and Sporting CP loanee Lopes demanded total commitment from his teammates in their final three matches of the season.

“We didn’t enter the game [against Celta] as we should have,” the defender said at a Press conference.

“If we go down, we have to go down fighting, with a will and desire to stay up, showing that we want to leave the situation where we’re in.

“Against Las Palmas, we have to do the opposite of what we did against Celta.

“We’re playing for our lives and that has to be seen against Las Palmas.

“They’re complicated opponents because they play good football, but we hope they’re relaxed because they no longer have anything to play for.

“We’re only thinking about going game by game and getting three points against Las Palmas.

“Only after that will we think about Sevilla. Barcelona [the last game of the season] is distant.

“[On the pressure of staying up], pressure accompanies players every day, even when working with their Coach in training, although it’s more so because we’re playing to stay up.

“I’ve felt some discomfort of late, but I want to help the team, so I’ll put it behind me to go all out [for Granada avoiding relegation].”
