Bale clarifies ‘golf injury’

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale insists reports of an injury during a round of golf are not true after his match-winning performance against Rayo Vallecano.

Bale reportedly angered Zinedine Zidane for risking his body on the golf course, which induced his midweek absence against Villarreal, but the Welshman nonetheless returned on Saturday with a brace to keep Madrid in the title hunt.

“I’m very happy for the goals and victory,” he said after the game.

“With golf, nothing happened. I went last Sunday and on Monday I trained and felt something, so I rested for the match against Villarreal.

“It was the right decision as I found myself in a very good way [on Saturday].

“We know it’ll be very difficult against [Manchester] City, but we’ve arrived in great form and with confidence.”
