Castro: Points better than goals

Ruben Castro insists ensuring Real Betis’ survival with his goalscoring feats “is the most important thing” as opposed to the publicity.

Castro scored his 17th La Liga goal of the season on Saturday as Betis all-but-secured their place in the top flight next season with a 1-0 victory over Levante, prompting sections of the Spanish media to speak of him in the same breath as fellow striking veteran Aritz Aduriz.

“These are three golden points and we have survival in our hands,” the 34-year-old said after the game.

“This is a happy day for everyone. We’ve taken a giant step [towards safety].

“It was the [biggest] game of our season, we showed our faces and got the three points, which was what we wanted.

“Now we’re happy and enjoying the victory, and we’ll resume [working] on Monday.

“We’re continuing to pick up points, and [that I’m scoring goals] means I’m doing well.

“Still, the most important thing is that [my goals] give the team points.

“[On Saturday], another of my goals have given the team three points, which is pretty cool.”
