Paco Jemez admits the losers between Rayo Vallecano and Getafe in Friday’s La Liga six-pointer will be “steeped in misery”.
Rayo and Geta are both tied on 28 points ahead of their meeting at Vallecas to kick off Round 31, with the former currently above their relegation-positioned opponents by the virtue of goal difference, and Paco – while playing down the idea of a final – feels the winner will be handed momentum to stay afloat.
“We must be brave, but it’s not a final because after this match there are still points remaining,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“If you just want to win [on Friday] and no more than that, you’ll end up in La Segunda.
“You can give the game any name you want, such as the game of the year, but it’s not a final for either team.
“It’s true that whoever wins will see a brighter future and one that is less complicated. We just want to win and play our game.
“The team have a very good chance of hurting their opponents, but we don’t want to apply even more pressure on the game because it already has very important connotations.
“There are people who aren’t affected at all [by setbacks] and those who become depressed.
“The losers [on Friday], if they are depressed by the result, will be steeped in misery.
“We have not bowed the knee or we will, win or lose. We’re feeling very good about the game.
“[On tickets being sold out for the game], we didn’t expect any less of our fans because they’re always there when we need them.
“It will be an audio-visual spectacle, and we have to match it with our work and play.
“We’re feeling their support and it’s one of the best forms of protection.
“When we’re together, everything works and there are fewer concerns.”
