Report: Valencia favour Jemez

Paco Jemez is reportedly the favourite of Valencia owner Peter Lim to take the bench from Gary Neville for next season.

AS reports the Rayo Vallecano Coach is among a host of names that also includes Andre Villas-Boas, Rafa Benitez, Manuel Pellegrini, Guus Hiddink and Jorge Sampaoli.

Neville is not expected to have his short-term contract extended beyond the summer after a difficult time at Mestalla, with the weekend’s home defeat to Celta Vigo greeted by calls from the crowd for the Englishman to resign.

The ex-Manchester United defender isn’t going to quit but he won’t be kept on in his first coaching post and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has been collecting information on replacements.

After La Liga rookie Neville there is a desire to have a trainer who knows Spanish football, which rules out a number of people on the shortlist.

There’s also a feeling that with Valencia not in Europe next season, and the budget having to be cut accordingly, some candidates will be out of the club’s financial reach.

But Jemez fits the bill as he has extensive Primera experience and won’t break the bank.

Pitarch will in the coming weeks present his candidate to the Valencia board and Lim will have the final say, AS note.
