‘Suarez has played 850,000 times!’

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique justified his decision to drop Luis Suarez against Getafe on Saturday as the forward “has played 850,000 games”.

Suarez’s absence from the XI was not keenly felt as Barca defeated Getafe 6-0 thanks to strikes from Munir El Haddadi, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Arda Turan, plus a Juan Rodriguez own goal, and the Coach was quizzed on his team selection after the game.

“We have almost everyone at our disposal,” he said.

“It’s a very favourable situation for the team that we’re ready to compete every few days.

“When we’re so accurate and quick, it’s very difficult for rivals. We’re in a very sweet moment and playing with confidence.

“My only mistake is that I didn’t give minutes to everyone, but they’re all in very good condition.

“We tend to focus on going forward. Munir, for example, had a great game.

“[Dunga and I] only have one common goal: to seek the best for Neymar and other [Barca] players.

"When we have something concrete, we’ll let you [journalists] know, but first we must reach an agreement.

“[On Suarez being rested], when you make a change, it’s because you need to make a change and when you don’t it’s because you don’t.

“Suarez has played 850,000 games and I decided that the best thing for Luis and the team was for him not to play.

“This is a unique team, different from the others. It seems like our opponents can’t do much against us.

“[On Sergi Roberto being called up by Spain], I’m not the Coach, but if I was then I’d surely take him.

“He’s a player who plays in many positions … And I like him in all of them. He’s a fundamental player for our team.

“[On opponents being so reserved], every Coach wants the best for their team, and if the Coaches think so, that scoring at Camp Nou is very difficult, Barcelona also deserve credit.

“We seek to play this well for as long as possible.”
