Emery: Respect Molde

Unai Emery wants Sevilla to respect Europa League opponents Molde as they ‘came through a difficult group stage’.

Sevilla begin the defence of their trophy against the Norwegians after dropping out of the Champions League, and Emery isn’t looking past their first opponents.

“You have to know a team like Molde. They’ve qualified from a difficult group in the group stage and you have to respect that,” he said, Marca reports.

“They have good players. It’s a nice, important day. We respect this competition very much and want to have happy moments again, only thinking about Molde.

“I arrived at Sevilla without being in Europe and the Europa League feels bigger to all of us. If we’re not excited by this then there’s something wrong.

“This is a big Europa League, with teams such as Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund…

“When you read United’s Wayne Rooney say you have to go for this competition it’s because he thinks it can be important. This isn’t the UEFA Cup of before. I feel privileged to be in the Europa League with Champions League teams.”
