LFP President Javier Tebas has floated the idea of early Saturday starts to matches next season, and wants the Copa del Rey ‘reinvented.’

Tebas, in an interview with Cadena COPE, suggested playing game prior to the usual 4pm local time kick-offs on Saturdays.

“Maybe next year there will be matches played at 1pm on Saturday,” he said, Marca reports.

“Next season the games will start on a Friday. [And] I agree games should be [subject to technology] as in the Premier League.

“The Copa del Rey? It’s losing interest. It needs to be reinvented as a competition.”

Tebas also predicted continued growth for La Liga TV rights in markets abroad, and revealed the only team in the League at risk of economic relegation.

“I’m convinced that in five years we’ll raise more outside Spain than inside for television rights,” he said.

“The only team at risk of relegation with overdue debt is Albacete, but they can overcome it.”
