Rubi: Levante will keep fighting

Rubi has insisted that Levante will “keep fighting” for survival in La Liga after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Eibar.

Goals from Borja Baston and Adrian Gonzalez consigned the Valencians to a third successive defeat and kept them five points adrift, with 14 games remaining, and the Coach struggled to explain his side’s “transformation” in allowing their opponents take the lead.

“We took to the pitch well and had the game’s first chance, but then we transformed and Eibar were stronger in every duel,” he said after the game.

“They exploited their moment of superiority, while we didn’t. We were given a mountain to climb in the match at 1-0.

“In the second half we tried different things, but it wasn’t to be. Eibar won on merit. They created more chances than us.

“I told my players it was important to take the lead because if we went 1-0 up, the game could’ve panned out differently.

“I prefer not to say anything about the referee. I accept things as they come.

“Unfortunately, when we haven’t done our job properly, we must rejoice when [our rivals] haven’t scored.

“We have to keep fighting and seek victory on Friday [against Getafe].

“We’re very happy for the fans’ support, and we feel bad that we didn’t make them happy, but our players are fighting the maximum to pull the team afloat.

“I’m happy because the fans came to cheer the team on, and my players acknowledged their efforts.”
