‘Messi’s penalty was perfect’

Jordi Alba described Lionel Messi’s penalty pass for Luis Suarez as ‘perfect’ after Barcelona romped past Celta Vigo.

Messi teed up Suarez from 12 yards to give the Uruguayan his hat-trick, declining to shoot for what would have been his 300th La Liga goal.

“I didn’t know [what Messi was going to do] because it’s not usual to pass but he is always coming up with things,” Alba said post-match, AS reports.

“It went well. The penalty was perfect. I don’t know if [Suarez and Messi] talked about it but they’re always trying things.”

The game was level at half time and Alba admitted it had been a testing game until late on, when Barca pulled away.

“It was very difficult. The full-backs sometimes have more space but they were very attentive to us. They have beaten us two or three times. It was important to win today,” he noted.

“The Coach told us we were doing well [at half time]. It’s complicated, but we took the technical explanations of the trainer.”
