Mosquera extends Depor contract

Deportivo La Coruna have been given a pre-Real Betis boost with the announcement of Pedro Mosquera’s contract until 2021.

The midfielder had looked to be on the verge of departing Galicia for Valencia in January, but he ultimately rejected Los Che’s offer and has since signalled his intention to remain loyal to the club who poached him from relegated Elche last summer.

“Deportivo La Coruna and midfielder Pedro Mosquera have extended their relationship until 30 June 2021,” read a statement on Depor’s official website.

“He is one of the players who, in the short time that he has worn the Deportivo jersey, has become popular among the club’s fans, in addition to his footballing performance and identification with both the city and characteristics of the club.”

Depor boss Victor Sanchez added: “I told Pedro to weigh up the pros and cons and listen to his fans but make his own decision.

“We’re delighted, of course, because our desire is to continue with him and his departure midway through the season would’ve dented our potential.”

Mosquera has started 22 of Depor’s League games this season, with a suspension enforcing his only absence, and is set to start against Betis on Saturday, while a Press conference to publicise his renewal has been scheduled for Monday.

Marca also reports the 27-year-old’s release clause has been raised “significantly” after Valencia had activated his previous €4m threshold.
