Pizzi unveiled as Chile boss

Former Spain striker Juan Antonio Pizzi is relishing “the most important challenge of my career” after being unveiled as Chile’s new Coach.

Pizzi, who scored eight goals in 22 caps for Spain, represented the likes of Tenerife and Barcelona during his playing career and managed Valencia for the second half of the 2013-14 campaign, replaces Jorge Sampaoli, who resigned last month.

“For me, it’s a great honour to be the Coach of the Chilean national team,” he said at his official presentation on Friday.

“It’s the most important challenge of my career, and I pledge to do my job with the utmost responsibility, dedication and commitment. This team can continue being protagonists.

“[On his reportedly-strained relationship with Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo], he’s the best goalkeeper in Spain and Europe.

“I don’t give any credence to the reports which have circulated. It’s annoying for both of us.”
