Getafe considering Pereira appeal

Getafe President Angel Torres confirmed a possible appeal against Alvaro Pereira’s eight-game ban but was philosophical about the situation.

Pereira moved to Getafe on loan from Estudiantes de la Plata late in the transfer window but was banned for eight games by the Argentine Football Association [AFA] for his part in a brawl during a friendly with Gimnasia.

AS confirms AFA statutes require Pereira to serve his ban even though he has left the club as Article 229 of the organisations disciplinary code specifically addresses this scenario.

The rule states that any player given a ban of more than four games for a sending off in a friendly ‘cannot take part in a competitive match in any division until he has fully complied [with the punishment].’

“First, let’s see the judgement and when it is certain we’ll see what we have to do,” Torres is quoted as saying.

“We’ll see it and when it’s published, we’ll think. In the meanwhile, it’s speculation. We have to be prudent.”

As it stands Pereira will be banned until early April and will only be free to debut for El Geta in Round 31.

“We’ll talk to him and to Estudiantes,” Torres continued.

“He’s training calmly and if we have to wait eight games, nothing happens, it’s not a disease.

“The boy is our player and we should hope, but we will be cautious and see if we can use him. [The ban] has to be fewer than four games for us to not have to comply.”
