Jemez ‘encouraged’ by Rayo

Paco Jemez sees ‘encouragement’ in how Rayo Vallecano have started the second half of the season but admits a need to improve in defence.

Rayo drew 2-2 with Deportivo La Coruna at Riazor on Monday night, twice taking the lead only to be pegged back each time by the hosts.

“The start of the second half of the season is encouraging and now we have games against Las Palmas and Sporting Gijon that are going to say a lot,” Jemez predicted, AS reports.

“This was a hard-fought, competitive game on both sides. I’m happy about the game and I think the first half was very, very good.

“We have to improve defensively. We continue to concede goals and I didn’t like what I saw in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but other than that we interpreted the game well.

“The good thing is we get a point and we had a good game in stages and we have four points more than we did in the first half of the season and the goal is to be in a more tranquil position.”
