Neville happy with SD appointment

Valencia boss Gary Neville is happy with the appointment of Jesus Garcia Pitarch as sporting director. “He has experience and can help us a lot.”

Garcia Pitarch returned to Valencia for a second spell upstairs on Wednesday, having worked alongside Rafa Benitez between 2002 and 2004, and Neville believes the 52-year-old has plenty to offer Los Che.

“Granada had a great first few minutes, but I think we got better as the game went on,” he said after Thursday’s 3-0 victory over Granada in the Copa del Rey last 16, which set up a quarter-final tie with Las Palmas.

“We left [Granada] with a clean sheet and I’m happy with the result and performance.

“I’m only thinking about Rayo [Vallecano, Valencia’s next game], not the quarter-finals.

“Yes, we scored seven goals [over two legs] and that’s great.

“Now we have to win in the League and also pick up a clean sheet

“We’ve not changed anything. You have to keep working hard.

“I think it was an excessive result as Granada had a lot of chances themselves, but we were competitive and deserved to go through.

“[Garcia Pitarch] is a club appointment and the club felt it was needed. I met with him last week.

“He has experience and can help us a lot. It’s good for the club to have an experienced head like Garcia Pitarch.”
