Paco to make Rayo ‘changes’

Paco Jemez has warned his Rayo Vallecano players that he will be making changes for Saturday's trip to Levante in La Liga.

Los Vallecanos are winless in the seven matches but picked up a creditable 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday and can leave the relegation zone with victory over the League's bottom club.

“It's not a decisive game because there are 19 games and many months of the campaign to go,” he said at a Press conference.

“If it's important then it's because we can achieve what we've been wanting for several weeks, which is to leave the relegation zone, but every game has the same reading.

“Beating [Levante] or not, with the points we have, we're still forced to have a spectacular second half [to the season].

“It's not a final, but it's still very important.

“It's striking that [Levante] are a team who have only 11 points because they have players who are very solid and balanced.

“They've had a coaching change, but the results are still not coming and they're in a vulnerable situation.

“I can guess what will happen in the game, but I care more about what we actually do.

“I don't want anything other than us winning and playing well. We'll try to be brave, but it's a tough game and very difficult for both teams.

“Right now, all clubs, especially those who are in tight situations, are making an effort to strengthen.

“We don't know if [new Levante signing Mauricio] Cuero will go straight into their team.

“I've made it very clear to the players that there will be changes. I try to be as fair as possible, without considering who plays and who doesn't.

“We're in a situation, in which no-one has won the right to stay in the team because no-one has shown enough merit. It's normal to make changes.

“We'd been playing with a fixed team, but the results haven't followed.

“One thing I can do is work and look for other options. Sometimes you have them and sometimes you don't, but some of the lads have shown they can be.

“As much as I want fresh air, I won't make wholesale changes.”
