Augusto to Atleti on Thursday

Celta Vigo will agree to release Augusto Fernandez to Atletico Madrid on December 31, paving the way for a January transfer.

Atletico have reportedly targeted Celta’s captain as a replacement for Tiago Mendes, who suffered a broken leg, but Diego Simeone wanted the midfielder at Vicente Calderon at the start of the week, reports claimed, so he could train with the club after Christmas.

Celta said no, however, and had to negotiate with Velez Sarsfield over buying their half of Augusto’s registration before he could be sold to Atletico, but AS reports the Galicians will consent to the transfer on Thursday.

It was also suggested that Eduardo Berizzo wanted to be able to call on Augusto for the game against Athletic Bilbao, but with Nemanja Radoja passed fit, that’s become less of an issue.

Augusto can now travel to Madrid to tie up the formalities regarding the transfer.
