‘If Florentino says Rafa is the right man…’

Sergio Ramos insists “if the President says Rafa Benitez is the solution then he is” after Real Madrid’s 10-2 capitulation of Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

The Coach’s position remains a topic of scrutiny, with many pundits of the opinion that the capital giants’ double-digit rout of Los Vallecanos papered over the cracks as the side were 2-1 down until their opponents had two players sent off.

“If the President says Benitez is the solution then he is. We’re pawns and he’s the King,” he said after the game.

“It’s a little unfair to judge this match after the red cards, but keep in mind that there have been 10 goals.

“We respect the opinion of everyone after a spell of failure, but we’ve learned to respond to defeats and we must maintain the good aspects [to our performances].

“It’s a difficult situation because we’re not where we want to be.

“The fans are very demanding and always want the team to win and play well.

“We have to stay calm, be united and pick up results to achieve our objectives.

“It’d be unfair to judge a team like Rayo, who play great football, and I admire their Coach for how he sent them out with personality at a stadium like ours.

“[On his 300th career win], on a personal level, it inspires me to break more records and more so collectively. I didn’t think I’d achieve 300 victories.

“[On Ronaldo’s gesture], it’s more a question for Cristiano than me. Players are also allowed to express things they feel very clearly.

“I didn’t say [the fans] weren’t with us but that they demand us to play well and sometimes football doesn’t go as planned.

“At the end of season, we’ll see what happens.”
