Varane out for a month?

Raphael Varane could be facing a month on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury in Real Madrid’s 4-3 win at Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The defender was withdrawn from Los Blancos’ slender victory in Ukraine with the ailment and subsequently taken to Sanitas Hospital La Moraleja for medical tests, which have since confirmed his club’s worst fears.

Although Madrid’s website insists more tests will be carried out, Marca reports Varane may be out for as long as four weeks, thereby joining Sergio Ramos and Marcelo on the treatment table.

The capital giants are now expected to play Pepe and Nacho Fernandez as centre-backs against Eibar on Sunday.
