Dani Carvajal admitted Real Madrid ‘relaxed’ against Shakhtar Donetsk after their four-goal lead ended in a narrow 4-3 win.
The victory means Los Blancos can’t be caught at the top of Group A and Carvajal, among the scorers, took heart from that.
“Perhaps we thought the game was over and we relaxed. They wanted to score and went direct and surprised us, but we obtained the victory. We’re top of the group and thinking about Eibar,” the right-back said, AS reports.
“We were a team, we wanted to attack and defend together and we did that for much of the game, except at the end.
“Of course we were bothered by the Clasico. It wasn’t about attitude, we went to win. It’s November and there’s a lot of La Liga left.
“My goal? I was able to cut inside, shoot for the far post and it went in.”
