Victor hopeful of long Depor stay

Victor Sanchez has expressed his desire to stay at Deportivo La Coruna for the long haul ahead of Saturday’s trip to Levante in La Liga.

The Galicians’ former winger has steadied the ship since replacing Victor Fernandez as Coach at the tail end of last season, going on to preserve the side’s top-flight status on the final day.

Victor has since guided Depor to ninth place, with 14 points after 10 matches in 2015-16, and he hopes he has done enough to warrant his contract being extended beyond next summer.

“I’ve already made it clear that I’m happy here and I hope our work is deemed worthy of a medium to long-term commitment because it is my dream and offers me tremendous motivation,” he said at a Press conference.

“[On Levante], all the teams which are on a losing streak can react. An example is our match against Malaga.

“The statistics were not favourable to them, yet they beat us. Also, [Levante] have just changed their Coach and that usually produces a reaction.

“I expect a different Levante. They used to play with five at the back, now they play 4-1-4-1. We’ve also looked at Rubi’s matches for his previous club.

“They’re a team with balance up top, although they’ve struggled to score.

“They have players with goals in them, such as Deyverson and [Victor] Casadesus, interesting players like Roger Morales and experience in defence.”
