Sandoval: No more excuses

Jose Ramon Sandoval has made it clear that Granada cannot afford any more excuses ahead of Saturday’s “must-win” against Real Betis in La Liga.

The Andalucians head into the ninth week of fixtures bottom, with only one win and five points to their name, and the Coach admits time is of the essence as they risk falling further behind.

“[Injuries aren’t an excuse if we lose] because I have a lot of faith in the players who will come into the squad,” he said at a Press conference.

“I see the team as being on track [to achieve the objectives] and strong and mature after taking in all the positives from their defeats. A win would give us belief in what we’re trying to do.

“We must win now, it’s imperative. What we express on the pitch must be converted into points.

“Betis are very good at picking up results away from home, but this isn’t concrete as they also play good football at home and don’t change the way they play.

“They have lethal players in attack, show personality on the ball and possess quality players.

“They’re a team who work very hard off the ball, can pounce on a mistake and hit you on the counter.

“Ruben Castro’s in a great form, so we must stop the ball from getting into our box.

“We must be very vigilant defensively, leave as little space behind, cut the supply to their forwards and quickly get the ball forward.

“We must transfer what we do away from home into our home games. Away from home, our movement is better and we’re more compact.

“[On potentially facing the sack after the game], I’m not thinking beyond this match.

“I’m confident we’ll win. My players have given Granada their lives.”
