Paco: Bad apples everywhere

Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez has admitted that “bad apples are everywhere” in response to allegations of corruption preceding November’s Clasico.

The Spanish Press have run reports of a linesman’s claim that he was pressured into favouring Real Madrid over Barcelona next month by a member of the Referees Technical Committee, and the Coach concedes he would not be surprised if the story was found to be true.

“These themes exist in football, just as they do in society,” he said at a Press conference ahead of Rayo’s game against Espanyol in La Liga on Friday.

“Bad apples are everywhere, in football, politics, bullfighting … To think we’re all above the law is a lie, and another thing is what can be proven.

“It’s like buying games – if you have good evidence, you speak out. If not, you keep your mouth shut.

“[The allegations] are being increasingly looked at and pursued. It isn’t easy [to address], but unfortunately it’ll certainly continue.”
