Garitano out, Portugal in at Valladolid

Real Valladolid have parted company with Coach Gaizka Garitano after a run of five games without a win and replaced him with Miguel Angel Portugal.

Pucela appointed the former Eibar boss over the summer but three-and-a-half months into Garitano’s reign he has been relieved of his duties, the club confirmed in an official statement.

Valladolid are fourth-bottom of the Segunda and were this weekend beaten 3-1 by Llagostera, leaving them with nine points from as many games.

Portugal was mooted in the Press as a possible successor to Garitano and Valladolid confirmed the appointment of the former Racing Santander trainer shortly after it was announced Garitano had left Jose Zorrilla, signing a contract to the end of the season.
