Jemez: I’ve become fashionable…

Rayo Vallecano Coach Paco Jemez has further discussed links to the Spain job but noted that he’s been linked with a lot of roles lately.

AS readers voted Jemez their favoured candidate to replace the retiring Vicente Del Bosque after Euro 2016 and Jemez himself admitted he’d find the post ‘hard to turn down,’ and in an interview with El Laguero, took a tongue-in-cheek approach.

“What, I’ve become fashionable? It’s nice to know that many people prefer me for such an important job,” he admitted, AS reports.

“But the Barca B team is better than Rayo. And the Coach of the Barca B team is better than me.

“I’m the Coach of Rayo, a small team but one that satisfies me a lot, so I’m here. But my path and Rayo’s path will not always be together.

“Whenever there’s a problem on any bench my name is called out and I’ve been at Rayo four years. There are several teams I’d like to train. Coaches want to improve, who wouldn’t like to train a big team?”

Rayo next play Barca and Jemez suggested that the match itself is beyond his team’s reach, but they would enjoy it regardless and look to take something other than points from it.

“Games like this, at Camp Nou, at Santiago Bernabeu, we enjoy much more. For us it’s like a prize,” he acknowledged.

“This week in training it’s noticeable that the players want to play in this important game. They’re training out of their skin.

“The result might not be positive but you always learn from the battle. You always learn something.

“Barca might win but what I want is my team on Saturday to have been better than Barca’s.”
