Jemez: Hard to say no to Spain

Rayo Vallecano Coach Paco Jemez has hinted he would be open to replacing Vicente Del Bosque as trainer of the Spain team.

Jemez was voted the preferred candidate by readers of AS should Del Bosque follow through on his plan to step down after Euro 2016, and the newspaper reports Jemez told Union Rayo that he’d find the job hard to turn down, although noted it’s not that simple.

“Del Bosque still has to say he’s leaving. When that happens there’ll be time to think and pay attention to the surveys,” Jemez stressed.

“In addition, in the end the choice will be of the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF]. And who is to know who the chosen one is…”

Jemez went on to discuss how different it would be overseeing the national team as compared to a club, but believes it is something he would get used to.

“I would have to adapt. Everything has to be taken into account. The life of a Coach is different and we have to adapt,” he continued.

“To say no would be difficult. This train passes only once in your life and if you let it through maybe you can’t take it again.

“When you’re a player, you always dream to wear [the national team’s shirt].”
