Paco Jemez insists “no-one can criticise” Rayo Vallecano after putting Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Real Betis down to an absence of luck.

Goals from Heiko Westermann and Ruben Castro, the latter aided by Ze Castro’s individual error, handed all three points to the new boys, but the Coach maintains Los Vallecanos are on the right track, despite recording back-to-back losses.

“Things aren’t always fair in football,” he said after the game.

“We’ve been very unlucky in the two boxes and that cost us the match.

“I liked how the pressed and used the ball, but the result highlights our lack of success. We made mistakes and you can’t win when you make mistakes in both boxes.

“[On Ze Castro’s mistake for Ruben Castro’s goal], we must learn from these things. Barring his error, he played well.

“Ze must become very important for us. He did other good things which, for me, shouldn’t go unnoticed.

“I’m not disappointed because the team gave everything and just weren’t successful. No-one can criticise us.

“The opposition took advantage of our mistakes, but we didn’t take advantage of theirs.

“The team are down because no-one likes to lose, but no-one can criticise this team.

“Sometimes you have to make those kinds of mistakes [that Ze Castro made] to learn and we hope to learn quickly.”
