‘Villarreal have to prove themselves’

Villarreal Coach Marcelino agrees his side are better than Europa League opponents Viktoria Plzen but knows the team have to prove it.

The Yellow Submarine host the Czech outfit on Thursday and go into the game top of La Liga, but having lost their first Group E game to Rapid Wien at the same time Viktoria were beating Dinamo Minsk to top the table.

“We’re playing against a team that already has three points and we come from not having scored any points in our away game,” the trainer said, according to the club’s official website.

“It’s very important to take maximum points on our own ground. If we win we give ourselves the best possible opportunity to top the group and if we lose we complicate qualification.

“We believe we are superior but we have to prove it. It’s one thing to think it and another to show it. The latter is more difficult but we go with the attitude of thinking that to win this match.

“Viktoria are a dynamic team that usually press in the attacking half and play a direct game. They are physically powerful. They’ll demand a very high level of intensity. We need to have a good positional game to break their lines of pressure.”
