‘Celta’s aim remains survival’

Eduardo Berizzo has insisted that survival remains Celta Vigo’s main objective ahead of Saturday’s trip to Eibar in La Liga.

The Galicians enter the sixth round in second place, level on points and goals with leaders Real Madrid after their midweek demolition of Barcelona, but the Coach believes it is vital that his side keep their feet firmly on the ground.

“We’ve started the season with a lot of points, but we’re only five games in,” he said at a Press conference.

“We’d be naive or foolish if we allowed the front pages to make us dizzy.

“We had a very good game against Barcelona and half at Sevilla, and those two alone should give us confidence.

“Nothing should distract us from our idea of humility, with which we played [in those two games].

“The objective of every Coach is to find the philosophy that the fans demand from their team.

“I think the team are responding to the fans’ wishes of a team who attack, play as a team and with lots of effort.

“Our good results have boosted our confidence levels, but we’ll soon face difficulties and what’s pink today will be another colour tomorrow.

“Our objective for the season is to earn as many points as possible in order to stay in La Liga.

“I also like saying that we face opponents every seven days who we can and want to beat. We showed that by beating a team like Barcelona.

“The most important thing is that we forget about our last game in order to focus on this one.

“[Eibar] will be very difficult. The game against Barcelona is over, now we have another [game], which is worth the same [in terms of points].

“We expect very well-organised opponents. [Eibar] are a team who play with great rhythm in their game, so the key will be to maintain our intensity levels.

“[On rotating his squad for the match], it won’t be an excuse if we don’t win at Ipurua.”
