‘Eibar need to play with personality’

Jose Luis Mendilibar has called on Eibar to “play with personality” when they do battle with Malaga in La Liga on Sunday.

The Basques have been the season’s surprise packages, bouncing back from their relegation and subsequent salvation at Elche’s expense by winning their first two matches of 2015-16, and the Coach has challenged his troops to go one better at La Rosaleda.

“We’re not thinking about anything other than winning, but Malaga have competed well in their two games and also have an obligation to win,” he said at a Press conference.

“If we play with personality, we can win. If we get carried away by his game and let them play, we will create problems for ourselves and won’t win.

“We can make life difficult [for Malaga] if we believe in what we’ve done up until now. Whoever plays with more personality will win.

“[On new boy Izet Hajrovic], the players must earn their place. It’s difficult for any new player to break into a winning team.

“The squad have trained very well this week, and I always think that you play well when you train well, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll [beat Malaga].

“I see confidence in the group and we haven’t relied on luck to win thus far.

“[On a win moving Eibar back to the top] I’m only thinking about another three points, which will move us closer to survival.

“Some may think I’m being defeatist, but everyone should think this way.”
