Official: Eibar loan for Baston

Eibar have completed the signing of striker Borja Baston from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old finished as La Segunda’s joint-second highest goalscorer in 2014-15 with 23 goals for Real Zaragoza, who were ultimately pipped to the top tier in the playoff final by Las Palmas.

Nonetheless, Baston will play in La Liga next season with Eibar after passing a medical on Friday, the Basques understood to have beaten the likes of Getafe and Deportivo La Coruna in securing his servces.

Baston’s first and last appearance for the Atleti first team came in the last round of the 2009-10 campaign, when he replaced Tiago Mendes for the final 20 minutes of a 3-0 home defeat to Getafe, before being stretchered off with knee ligament damage.

He has also scored 18 goals in 27 caps at Under-16, 17 and 19 levels for Spain.
