Confirmed: Ryan joins Valencia

Valencia have confirmed the signing of Club Brugge goalkeeper Matthew Ryan on a six-year contract.

The club’s official website reports Ryan’s arrival but doesn’t reveal the transfer fee. Reports from Belgium have suggested the cost is around €7m.

Ryan, who holds a UK passport, joins after two years in Belgium, having previously played for Central Coast Mariners.

He is the first choice goalkeeper for the Australia national team after making his debut in 2012.

Valencia had been searching for a goalkeeper after Diego Alves suffered a serious knee injury at the end of the 2014-15 season.

“I’m very happy to come to a big club like Valencia. I know it’s a very important institution in world football and this move is a big step in my career,” Ryan is quoted as saying.

“Valencia are a side with fantastic players, who had a great campaign and finished fourth in the League. Our main objective now is Champions League qualification.”
