High Court confirms Elche relegation

Elche’s relegation for an unpaid tax bill has been confirmed by the High Court, meaning Eibar survive in the Primera.

Eibar were initially relegated on the final day of the season after ending the campaign in 18th, while Elche were clear of danger in 13th, six points ahead of Los Ameros.

Elche had requested an injunction against their forced relegation but AS reports Judge Eva Maria Alfageme Almena refused Los Franjiverdes.

AS suggest that Elche could continue their fight against the decision but even if they do so, may only receive financial compensation and not their place back in the top flight, having estimated the cost of relegation to be €79m.
