Elche decision set for Monday

Elche will finally discover their fate for next season on Monday after Spain’s National Court granted the club an injunction.

Last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Elche’s appeal against their administrative relegation, enforced by Spain’s Professional Football League (LFP), but the Valencians will now able to detail their plan to settle outstanding tax bills to the country’s high court in Madrid.

Representatives of Elche, LFP and Eibar – the team who would replace Los Franjiverdes in La Liga – will be present in the court room on Monday.

A judge will then hear testimonies from each of the three parties, before deciding whether Elche’s relegation to La Segunda will stand or be revoked.

Sources close to Elche, who went to the National Court in the wake of CAS’ judgment, told EFE: “We will have the opportunity to be listened to and put forward all the arguments that CAS did not consider.”

Carlos San Jose, President of the Federation for Elche fan clubs, added: “We want a peaceful rally in support of Elche before the High Court [verdict]. We’ll be playing one of the biggest games in our history in Madrid.”
