Garitano: History on Eibar’s side

Gaizka Garitano believes history is on Eibar’s side ahead of Saturday’s do-or-die encounter with Cordoba in La Liga.

The Coach harked back to previous occasions when the Basques thrived under end-of-season pressure, such as their promotion to La Segunda via the ‘B’ playoffs in 2012-13 and great escape from third-tier relegation in 1998-99, having been 13 points adrift at one stage.

“In extreme situations of life or death, we’ve gone ahead,” the retired midfielder, who was part of the Eibar squad 16 years ago, said at a Press conference.

“We can only win. We must focus on our own game, without thinking about the others.

“Our objective is very simple – we must win. If we don’t, [the match] is worthless.

"The best memories in football have happened on Saturdays. The players have to fight for Eibar’s place in the Primera.

“What more do they want? They should be proud to play in matches like [Saturday’s], regardless of the outcome.”

Eibar need to beat Cordoba to have any chance of survival and hope neither Deportivo La Coruna nor Granada spring shocks against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid respectively.
