Cruyff slates “unacceptable” Madrid

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has slammed Real Madrid’s recent run of poor form in La Liga as “ridiculous” and “unacceptable”.

Los Blancos have won the title just once since the 2007-08 season and the Dutchman maintained it was not good enough for a club of such stature.

“It’s ridiculous that they have only won La Liga once in the last seven years,” remarked the former Barca player and Coach in an interview with De Telegraaf.

“Losing the title race once is not a problem but doing so for so many seasons is completely unacceptable.

“In recent games I had my doubts whether any Madrid players wanted their teammates to score.

“That’s the difference between them and Barca, where everybody pulls together to try and score goals.”

Cruyff also gave his opinion on the forthcoming Champions League final in Berlin between Barca and Juventus and said that the Spanish and Italian Leagues are a cut above others in Europe.

“Spanish and Italian football is ahead of the rest. The Premier League has been disappointing and it proves once again that it’s not all about money.

“I’m talking about both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, who had a lot more money to spend than Juventus.

“I have the greatest respect for Juve as they were in Serie B not too long ago, but they came back strong.”

There were also words of praise for veteran Italian midfielder Andre Pirlo, a player he described as “an experienced professional who shows that simple football can be attractive”.
