‘Survival still in Eibar’s hands’

Gaizka Garitano believes Eibar dropping into the La Liga relegation zone for Sunday’s trip to Getafe may prove a blessing in disguise.

Last week’s 2-0 defeat by Espanyol saw the Basques slip into the bottom three with just two matches remaining, but the Coach claims the disappointment could trigger a positive change in his players’ mentality.

“We have to play, thinking that it’ll go well and that in 10 days we’ll be celebrating in style,” he said at a Press conference.

“We can’t play badly, with fear or think the world’s going to end.

“[Being in the relegation zone] can even come in handy on a psychological level because now the team are obliged to move up the table and can no longer rely on others.

“[Getafe] can score goals out of nothing, so we have to improve.

“The most important thing is to play football as we know best and enjoy the experience of being in La Liga.

“We have to develop rhythm in our game and improve defensively. It will be a very tense game, so we have to go for the win.

“Getafe have quality and experience, but we can beat them if we play well.

“Survival’s in our hands. If we win our next two games, we’re safe, and we’re almost certain [of safety] with four points.

“Everyone has something to play for in these two games. Football has brought us to this situation and we have to face it.”
