Gracia: Anything can happen

Javi Gracia believes “anything can happen” in the last two rounds of the La Liga season as Malaga travel to Villarreal this weekend.

The seventh-placed Andalucians are just two wins away from qualifying for next season’s Europa League, providing Athletic Bilbao fail to beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, but they could finish the campaign as low as 11th if results do not go their way.

“The match against Villarreal is crucial,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We need a good result in order to stay seventh because we’ll have to rely on other [results] if we don’t.

“We can stay seventh or fall to 11th in the next two games, so anything can happen.

“Beating Villarreal won’t be easy because they’ve had a great season and know how to play [good football].

“It’s been an exciting week for us and hopefully everything ends well. We can’t slip up now.

“[Villarreal] are very strong and sharp [at El Madrigal], so they’ll look to take the initiative with the help of their fans and get the win.

“I don’t believe that their performance levels will be affected by having secured sixth.

“We don’t want to rely on anyone in the last round [of fixtures], but we deserve to finish seventh.”
