Garitano: Eibar in a mess

Gaizka Garitano admitted Eibar were “in a mess” following Friday’s 2-0 defeat by Espanyol but remained optimistic about his side’s bid to avoid the drop.

The Basques head into the penultimate week just a point above the relegation zone, having picked up just four points from a possible 51 and played a game more than their rivals, after they succumbed to goals from Sergio Garcia and Cristian Stuani at Cornella-El Prat.

“We started well, but after the first goal we worsened and ended the game badly,” the Coach began in his post-match dissection.

“The team have gone many weeks without winning, while the opponents scored with their first shot on target.

“We’re in a mess. Borja [Fernandez’s] injury has hurt us in midfield.

“The situation isn’t good, but it hasn’t transmitted to the squad too much. We still have two games to see what results our rivals get.

“We’re still alive and you have to look up [the table]. We’ve lost, it’s a major blow, but we must raise the players’ spirits.

“[I hope that] we’ve done away with these bad sensations. We didn’t compete towards the end [of the match against Espanyol].

“The image at the final whistle was one of worry.”
