Garitano: Eibar finally rewarded

Gaizka Garitano revelled in Eibar’s 1-0 victory over Malaga on Tuesday. “We’ve worked hard these last few months and finally been rewarded”.

The Basques had not won since the second week of January but moved six points clear of the relegation places in La Liga thanks to Mikel Arruabarrena’s second-half winner against the Andalucians.

“We’ve improved in recent weeks, but you need to translate [an improvement] into results,” the Coach said after the match.

“We’ve worked hard these last few months and finally been rewarded.

“It’s not easy putting out a team who haven’t won in 11 games. I’m happy for the players and fans. I didn’t hear any booing [from our fans] in any of these 11 games.

“It would be a joy to stay up. We’ve passed the barrier of 30 points and we’ve worked hard for every point we’ve earned.

“There’s not much difference between the Eibar from the first half of the season and the second.

“We’ve improved physically and we’re growing game by game. I hope we can gain consistency [from this win].

“With this victory we’ve taken a step forward, but we haven’t done anything yet.

“We have eight games left, and they’re all finals. There’s anguish and agony still to be felt.

“We’re going to Madrid with the aim of competing. There are three points at stake, we have few options but go to compete and you never know what can happen.”
