Emery answers Marcelino dig

Sevilla boss Unai Emery has replied to Marcelino’s suggestion that his midfield players are over-aggressive.

The Villarreal Coach said some of Emery’s men committed fouls that went unpunished in the League meeting between the sides this season but, ahead of the clubs clashing in the Europa League Last 16 on Thursday, Emery insists it is the referee who will decide on things.

“Others can call us a physical side if they want but we’ll have a referee to decide what is a foul and what isn’t,” he told a Press conference.

“We’ll play to our strengths and within the rules but I won’t make an assessment of our opponents. We have complete faith in the referee to ensure it’s a fair game.

“It will be a close-fought encounter and it’s a chance for both teams to get into the quarter-finals, so we’ll be doing our utmost to achieve that.

“What happened in previous meetings between us doesn’t count for anything. We are on a par with Villarreal and in my opinion there is no clear favourite,” he asserted.
